Expect the unexpected in the charming town of Dupnitsa

Dupnitsa is a small town in Southwest Bulgaria, only 40min away from Sofia. I was invited by Hotel Rila to explore it last weekend for the first time. The room I was provided with was cosy and clean with a very nice view. There was also a SPA centre with Finnish and infrared sauna, as well as steam bath and swimming pool. Would you believe if I told you that this was my first time at the SPA?

A few words about the food. The dinner we had in the hotel restaurant consisted of a salad with fresh tomatoes, mozzarella and balsamic vinegar. The main course was a tender pork steak combined with potatoes puree - an absolute delight

On the next day, we had a breakfast and we headed to park Rila where we were going to participate in a treasure hunt game. I teamed with my fellow-bloggers and the hunt began. We finished on the 2nd place but we had a lot of fun! Rila park was the perfect spot for the purpose. There was a lake with ducks, BBQ huts, a small chapel and an outdoor swimming pool - things we don't have in Sofia's parks.

After the game, we explored the town of Dupnitsa. We first visited the mosque, which is the only one preserved there. After the liberation of Bulgaria from the Ottomans, the locals destroyed all 13 mosques and left this one. Probably because it was the biggest and prettiest.

One of my favourite monuments in town was the clock tower situated in the beautiful city garden. As you can see, it's dreamy during the fall, I guess it will be great in spring as well.

We also visited an ethnography exposition of clothing and adornments from the region. Here we got to know more about the local culture and customs.

In the afternoon, we had late lunch at Bar Moda – a cute Italian restaurant which I definitely recommend. We enjoyed a high-quality food and Italian beverages. The staff made our visit there an exciting experience

Overall it was a great pleasure for me to explore the town of Dupnitsa. Thanks to Hotel Rila, my stay was even more pleasant and relaxed. What do you think of this town? Is there anything particular you'd like to see there?

    1. The treasure hunt was so much fun, although we didn't win. Autumn is lovely as long as it is sunny and warm. Otherwise, I don't like rainy days. Thank you for your comment, Rowena!
