5 beautiful beaches on Lefkada island, Greece

Lefkada island is one of the greenest Greek islands. It's situated 520km away from the Bulgarian-Greek border. It is easy to access and doesn't require catching a ferry boat because there is an underwater tunnel to it. The major villages are Lefkada, Nydri and Vassiliki. Nydri port is a starting point for boats and ferry boats to the nearby islands.

We were staying at Vassiliki – a quiet village with fish and gyro restaurants, as well as souvenir shops.

We visited a few beaches, and I am now going to list them in ascending order depending on how much I liked them.

Nydri

1. Porto Katsiki – this is my favourite beach, and the most famous on Lefkada island thus it is the busiest one. It’s rocky and has crystal clear blue sea. A huge cliff above it makes a contrast with the blue sea and the view is fascinating. There is a food and drinks stall nearby, sunbeds and umbrellas are offered as well.

2. Kathisma – this beach left me speechless with the sparkling turquoise colour of the sea. The beach line here is very long covered with sunbeds and umbrellas, and there are few tavernas and beach bars behind. There is a free zone as well.

3. Mikros Gialos – a small resort with pebble beach offering sunbeds and umbrellas. The fee for them is 7 euro. It was one of the places with the warmest sea.

4. Afteli – we stumbled upon this intimate beach accidentally looking for another one – Syvota. The road to it was narrow and very dangerous, but the view was worth it. The beach was so small that we could hardly find where to place our towels. However, there was a nice beach bar behind, where we had food, drinks and played scrabble.

5. Vasiliki – the beach here is one of the most popular beaches for windsurfing. In the late afternoon, there were scores of them popping out.

I made this list based on my own experience. All of the beaches were recommended to me by people who have been to Lefkada 3 times already. They may not be better than the beaches we couldn't visit, but the first 2 together with Agiofili beach are definitely worth a check.

  8. Hi Sany! Looking at your photos made me thinking about Greece - to be honest, I haven't been huge fan of this country so far - don't get me wrong - I knew that the islands are charming, but haven't felt any "WOW" feeling, especially I remembered that when I was visited Kos few years ago, I wasn't pleased with the beaches. But now, when I'm looking at Lefkada's beaches, I'm truly amazed by each one, especially the first one, it looks really surrealistic and the contrast between the sea and cliff is really fascinating :)
Have a lovely evening, dear friend :)

    1. Oh, really? I just googled Kos and it seems a lovely island to me, but maybe you're right. Maybe it depends on what expectations you have. I personally find Lefkada island very beautiful, but there are other islands that according to me are better - such as Zakynthos. It's been my #1 Greek island so far. Thank you for your honest comment Ivonne!

  11. Those are stunning beaches and I'm actually glad you guys accidentally stumbled onto the smaller and more intimate beach. It's tiny yes but also less busy and noisy as the others ones. And it seems like you came across a little gem which makes it way more special.

I'm still due to visit Greece, but now I'm adding the island of Lefkada to my bucket list. I really like the concept of beaches to be free to use, including sun beds when you're a customer of the bars.
