Bucharest - Day 2

I want to apologize in advance for posting so many photos in this post! I didn't have such plans, but it turned out that Bucharest was the most photogenic city I have ever been to.

On the 2nd day, we woke up early as we had several places to visit on our list.

Piata Victoriei

One of them was the Arcul de Triumf. We had to walk more than 40min from the metro station to it, but despite the cold, I was excited to see it. When we finally got there, I was a bit disappointed....

It was all covered up during to restoration!

We went back to the Old town by metro. It was already coffee time...

Next on the list was the Romanian Ateneul...

Designed by a French architect and opened in 1888, now it serves as the city's main concert hall.

While we were wandering and admiring the beauty of the city, it was already time for lunch.

Cercul Militar National

After lunch, we wanted to go to the Controceni Palace - the residence of the president. Unfortunately, it was closed for visitors that day.

Then we realized it was time to go back to the hotel and get ready for the NYE. At midnight we greeted 2015 at a concert in front of the Parliament. Bucharest is not a city you would love at first sight. I definitely rediscovered it on the second day.

  2. It's true, Bucharest is an unusual city and I remember that unlike Budapest (just to take an example of a major capital in that region), there are almost no guide books for it. But there are many architectural gems, just like your photos show it. The outdoor museum was one of my preferred highlights. Did you visit it?

    1. There aren't many guide books indeed! I wanted to go and see Herăstrău Park but we didn't. Now I regret, but here's a good reason to come back one day :)

  11. Really quite nice old buildings in the city. Some are built in a style very similar to the buildings of the city center Sofia. Congratulations for choosing the photos.
